LifeMed Pharmacy Limited ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy and personal data. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use our services.
We process personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Act, 2019 (No. 24 of 2019) of Kenya.
Data Controller: LifeMed Pharmacy Limited
Address: Nairobi, Kenya
When you tap a WhatsApp button on this website, we record the enquiry so we can answer it and measure how well our branches respond. We record this at the moment you tap, before you are handed over to WhatsApp:
We do not receive, read or store the conversation itself. What you type in WhatsApp is between you and the branch, and is governed by WhatsApp's own privacy policy. This record is kept indefinitely as a business record of enquiries and orders. You can ask us to delete it at any time using the contact details below.
Health Data: We only collect health-related information (prescriptions, medication history, and symptoms you describe when booking a consultation) when necessary to provide pharmaceutical services and with your explicit consent. Describing your symptoms is optional — you can book a consultation without doing so, and the pharmacist will ask you directly instead. This data is treated with the highest level of protection as required by the Data Protection Act.
Enquiries about medicines: A WhatsApp enquiry records which medicines you were asking about. Where those medicines indicate a health condition, we treat that record as health data and protect it accordingly. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and is accessible only to LifeMed staff who need it to serve you.
We use your information for the following purposes:
Under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019, we process your data based on the following legal grounds:
Contract Performance
Processing necessary to fulfill orders and provide our services to you.
Consent
For health data processing, marketing communications, and optional features.
Legal Obligation
Compliance with pharmacy regulations, tax laws, and reporting requirements.
Legitimate Interest
Fraud prevention, service improvement, and platform security.
Vital Interest
Emergency situations where processing is necessary to protect life.
We retain your data for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, or for as long as the law requires. Most categories have a fixed period; one is held indefinitely and is marked as such below.
| Data Type | Retention Period |
|---|---|
| Order History | 7 years (tax requirements) |
| Prescription Records | 10 years (pharmacy regulations) |
| Account Information | Duration of account + 2 years |
| Payment Records | 7 years (financial regulations) |
| Marketing Preferences | Until consent withdrawn |
| Support Communications | 3 years |

Where a retention period is given above, data is securely deleted or anonymised once it ends. WhatsApp enquiry records are the exception: they are kept as an ongoing business record of enquiries and orders, and are deleted when you ask us to.
We implement comprehensive security measures to protect your personal data:
In the event of a data breach that poses a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify you and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner within 72 hours as required by the Data Protection Act, 2019.
